A borehole is a narrow shaft bored in the ground, either vertically or horizontally. A borehole may be constructed for the extraction of water as part of a geotechnical investigation, environmental site assessment, mineral exploration, temperature measurement, as a pilot hole for installing piers or underground utilities, for geothermal installations, or for underground storage of unwanted substances, e.g. in carbon capture and storage. (wikipedia)

Typically, a borehole used as a water well is completed by installing a vertical pipe (casing) and well screen to keep the borehole from caving. This also helps prevent surface contaminants from entering the borehole and protects any installed pump from drawing in sand and sediment. Oil and natural gas wells are completed in a similar, albeit usually more complex, manner. (wikipedia)

Keep any hazardous chemicals, such as paint, solvents, pesticides, fertiliser and herbicides, etc., well clear from the borehole. Check the well cover and well cap periodically to ensure that it is in good repair, and take care in working or mowing around the well. Damaging the casing could jeopardise the sanitary protection of the well. (domesticboreholes.co.za)

Well Points

A wellpoint or drive point is a pipe with wall openings large enough to allow water to enter and amall enough to keep water-bearing formation in place. Wellpoints suitable for hand driving are available in sizes from 1 1/4 to 2 inches in diameter and from 19 inches to 3 feet long. (internet)

Water Storage

Types of water storage

  • Groundwater.
  • Soil moisture.
  • Wetlands.
  • Ponds and tanks.
  • Dams and reservoirs.
  • Common Factors.
  • Common Risks.
  • Decontamination.

Filtration System

A water filter removes impurities by lowering contamination of water using a fine physical barrier, a chemical process, or a biological process.(wikipedia)

Why Choose Us?

My father started a drilling company in 1963 and I joined the business in 1990. Back then, we worked with all the old technology and pumps. My father taught me everything he knew and I am now one of the few people who has the knowledge to service these very old pumps.

I was young and ambitious, and after attending various Groundwater Conferences in the USA during the eighties and nineties, I imported a drill rig and began to expand the business.

We became one of the largest drilling companies in the Western Cape. I specialized in water well drilling, Geo technical drilling and technical drilling and construction.

After almost 30 years of experience drilling predominately in the Western Cape, I can tell a client telephonically if he is likely to find water in almost any suburb of Cape Town and surrounds, as well as how much, and what the geology of his land is likely to be.

I personally managed the project around the drilling for the upgrade of Chapman’s Peak, a difficult project, with a very high risk factor.

I was also involved in the drilling of emergency boreholes in Sedgefield, on the Garden Route, approx. 7 years ago and spent three years drilling around Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, thus giving me a thorough knowledge of the geologies there.

I have just completed a large drilling contract for Transnet on the Sishen Saldanha Iron Ore line. I have worked closely with specialist hydrologists in drilling water for towns and municipalities.

The various types of drilling that I have experience in are mud rotary, percussion, reverse circulation, Odex drilling. At the height of my drilling I owned and operated 5 drilling rigs.

My experience over 25 years of drilling has made me one of the most experienced contractors in South Africa and I have consulted to corporations, professional Hydrologists and upstart drilling companies.

My other experiences involve borehole testing/yield testing and pump selection and system design.

“Trevor and his team installed our borehole during the course of a week and we can only say how pleased we were with their workmanship, professional attitude and commitment to completing the job properly. Once the borehole was installed they focussed on ensuring our irrigation system was properly connected and as a client we had the opportunity to do a formal sign-off on the project. This seems to be rarity when contracting service providers these days. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Drillco for your borehole requirements.”
